January 13, 2016
The January 13, 2016 meeting of the Blair Park Board was called to order by Chairperson Neil
Jensen. Present were members Todd Wick, Jeene Hobbs, Neil Jensen, Steve Tonn and Pat Long,
Parks Superintendent.
Old Business
Discussion on the Lions Park Playground design was led by Pat Long, Parks Superintendent.
The board discussed two options presented by Pat Long. After good discussion by the Board, the
option entitled Option 3 was preferred by the Board. Jeene Hobbs moved that Option 3 totaling
$140,002 be used for soliciting bids for the playground project. Todd Wick seconded the
motion. Motion carried.
New Business
Joe Burns will join the board as a new member. It was decided by consensus to postpone the
election of officers until the next meeting.
Pat Long reported that he has put in two grant proposals for tree planting. The primary proposal
includes tree plantings for Black Elk Neihardt Park, Optimist Park, Steyer Park, Rhoades and
Vets Parks totaling 12 trees. The secondary proposal includes trees for Black Elk Neihardt Park,
Steyer Park and Vets Park as well as trees along East Washington Street (Main Street) totaling
12 trees.
Pat Long also commented on possible increases in 2017 budget figures for tree plantings, Black
Elk Neihardt Park maintenance, park improvements/signage and buildings.
