04-09-2014Blair Park Board Meeting Minutes April 9, 2014 Roll Call Members of the Blair Park Board met at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at the Blair City Council Chambers. Present were Neil Jensen, president; Jeene Hobbs, vice president; Ann George; Steve Tonn, secretary, and Pat Long, Parks Superintendent. Jeene Hobbs moved the March 12, 2014 minutes be approved as read. Motion was seconded and carried. Old Business Pat Long reminded the board of the Arbor Day planting on Friday, April 25, 1:30 p.m. at Vet’s nd Field. Board members are invited to attend. Neil Jensen will speak to the 2 Grade Students from South School prior to planting the trees. Ann George offered to contact the newspaper for the event. Black Hills Energy will not provide funding this year for the trees. Ann George reported the person she asked for serving on the Park Board declined. Other possible names offered were Todd Wick and Deb Gross. Jeene Hobbs will contact Mr. Wick to see if he will serve. Jeene Hoobs will ask again at PTO for potential members. She will also contact the Enterprise newspaper about an ad for members. New Business Pat Long began by sharing a list of proposed park equipment purchases. The proposed purchase include: playground equipment of a button loop and cozy cocoon; 6 recyclable picnic tables, 3 fire rings for Optimist Park; 2 covered grills for the Depot at Lions Park; and 8 – 20 gallon trash containers plus 5 – 40 gallon trash containers for Parks, Trails and Vets Field. These proposed purchases total $16, 049. Pat will delay the purchase of the trash containers for more flexibility in spending the funds. The Park/Playground budget is $24,000 leaving a balance of $7,951. Jeene Hobbs moved that the proposed park equipment be purchased. Ann George seconded the motion. Motion carried. Pat Long also shared with the group a list of the Blair Parks Department Spring Projects for 2014. The list included: 1. Replacing the bathroom doors and door knobs at Hardy R V Park shower doors, and Cemetery bathroom doors for a projected cost of $3870; 2. Rekey all existing door locks in all parks to be patterned off an existing city key same as city hall keys but a lower level and for a few door knobs for a projected cost of $2642; 3. Replace lighting in the shelter at Black Elk/Neihardt Park. This would include rewiring and replacement of old spot lights in the peck, with 4 new led fixtures similar to the new lights at the Veteran’s Plaza. A bid of $1926 has been received from Dick’s Electric for the job. The funding for these projects will be paid from the following sources: $4000 from Other improvements/Park Signage; $1500 Building and Grounds and $3000 Black Elk/Neihardt Park Maintenance. Jeene Hobbs and Steve Tonn reported they have not received a update on the status of the Blair Parks Master Plan. Rod Storm, City Administrator, is still working on the scope of the project to be discussed with the Big Muddy Workshop. Neil Jensen declared the meeting adjourned.
