04-18-2007Blair Park Board Meeting
April 18, 2007 (postponed from April 11)
Roll Call
Members of the Blair Park Board met at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at City Hall before driving to Lions
Park. Members present: Neil Jensen, president; Kathy Kuster, vice president; Aim George, secretary;
Roger Petersen, Ardee Pounds. Blair Parks Department: Pat Long. Not present: Jim Peterson.
Reading and Approval of March 14, 2007, Minutes
Kathy Kuster's motion to approve the minutes of the March 14 meeting was seconded by Ardee
Pounds and carried.
Approval of Bills (There were no bills needing approval.)
Old Business
Discussion of proposed new Lions Park shelter. Because Blair's 1880 railroad depot will be placed near
the southeast corner of the park, close to the proposed site of the new shelter, Pat Long suggested that the
new shelter be constructed instead near the northeast corner and that the present, deteriorating small
shelter near that location be demolished. Members visited the sites and agreed with Pat's suggestion.
Updates, disc golf course and skate park. Pat Long reported that all of the pads for the disc golf course at
Black Elk - Neihardt Park had been changed from wood chips to concrete. He also said that a bill being
considered by the Nebraska Unicameral will probably cancel the need for a fence around the skate park at
Steyer Park.
New Business
Plans for Arbor Day on April 27. This year's Arbor Day tree planting will take place at 1:30 p.m. on
Friday, April 27, at Stemmerman Park near the northwest corner of the tennis courts. Second - graders
from North School will participate in the planting and the mayor will tell them about Arbor Day.
Friends of Arboretum meeting date. Members agreed that Friends of the Arboretum will meet on the
first Wednesday of June at City Hall instead of on April 4 as discussed at the last Park Board meeting.
Subsequent meetings will be quarterly.
Update on Blair Depot. (See discussion above at "Old Business. ")
Report from Arboretum Curator
Neil Jensen reported that the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum was selling tree seedlings to celebrate Arbor
Day.
Adjournment
Roger Petersen's motion to adjourn was seconded by Kathy Kuster and carried. Members will next
meet at Black Elk - Neihardt Park at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9.
Respectfully submitted,
Ann George, Secretary
