Butler StreetProperty Owner/Resident Butler Street 13th to 16th Blair NE 68008 Re: Butler Street Water and Sewer Construction Dear Owner/Resident: As you may be aware, the City of Blair has been experiencing problems with the sanitary sewer systems along Sutler Street from 13t~' Street to 16~` Street. In an evaluation of the collection system late last summer, it was determined that the current 8" sewer main is too flat and too small for the area it serves. Last September, the City Council approved an engineering agreement with VK Engineering of Omaha to design a new 12" sewer main with sufficienfi fall to help eliminate the chances of sewer back ups in this area. The new sewer main will be constructed on the south side of Butler Street from 13~' Street to 16~ Street. As the new sewer main is being constructed the City will extend new service laterals from the new sewer main to reconnect your home sewer lateral at the right of way. It is anticipated that the sewer main project will be Iet out for bids in May 2007 with construction to start in early July 2007 and be completed by the end of October 2007. Before the sewer main can be constructed, the City will need to replace the existing 4" water main that is currently an the south side of Butler, with a new 6" water main on the north side of Butler. Originally this water main was not scheduled for replacement for another ~ to 6 years. Also, as part of the water project, the city will install new copper water services from the new main to your stop box at the property line. Ff you have an old galvanized service line, it may not be possible to reconnect the new existing wa#er service Tine to the new copper water service. Ff this is the case it will be property owner's responsibility to install a new service from the stop box to the house. Unfortunately the city will not be able to determine if the existing water services will be able to be connected to the new water services until the time of construction. Before the City can start any work, the other Utilities, OPPD and Aquila will need to relocate their systems. It should be noted that OPPD and Aquila will both start relocating their utility lines within the next week. What this means is there will be some type of construction occurring on Butler Street from next week until the seeding and sod is completed, hopefully by the end of October this year. It is the goal of the City to keep Butler Street open, at least to one lane of traffic at all times, but there will be occasions where traffic will need to be shut off. Likewise, it is our goal to keep all driveways open, although we know there will be times they will have to be closed while the contractors install the sewer main through them or while the driveways and sidewalks are being replaced. It should be noted that the entire right-of-way (approx. 17.5' from back of curb) on the south side of Butler will probably be tarn up. These projects are being paid from sewer and water revenues and will be no cost to you the property owner. The City of Blair would like the thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation as we work toward the improvement of our utilities in your area.
