The Blair Park Board met at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, in the City Hall Council Chamber. Members
present: Kathy Kuster, vice president; Ann George, secretary; Roger Petersen, Jim Peterson, Ardee
Pounds. Blair Parks Department: Pat Long. Not present: Neil Jensen. Others present: Jon Stewart,
City Council member.
Vice president Kathy Kuster conducted the meeting.

Reading and Approval of February 14, 2007, Minutes
Ardee Pounds's motion to approve the minutes of the February 14 meeting was seconded by Roger
Petersen and carried.
Approval of Bills (There were no bills needing approval.)
Old Business
Discussion of proposed new Lions Park shelter. After Pat Long reviewed catalog descriptions and photos
of the picnic shelters that were discussed at our February meeting, Jim Peterson moved that the Parks
Department order the ABCreative 20 x 30 foot shelter at $11,295 for Lions Park. Ardee Pounds
seconded his motion, which was carried. Pat will see if funds in addition to the budgeted $10,000 might
be available from either the Lions Club or Keno Fund. Jon Stewart suggested that Pat also check to see if
the additional cost might be paid from the local hotel occupation tax. Pat will also investigate the cost of
installing three electrical outlets at the shelter.
New Business
Plans for Arbor Day on April 27. Members agreed to hold this year's Arbor Day tree - planting at 1:30
p.m.(time tentative) at Stemmerman Park near the tennis courts. They suggested planting a small leaf
linden and a scarlet oak. A North School class will be invited to participate.
Friends of the Arboretum meetin.. date. After Park Board members discussed having quarterly meetings
of Friends of the Arboretum on either the first or third Wednesday of the month, they agreed that the first
meeting would be on April 4 at 7 p.m. at City Hall. Kathy Kuster will notify members of the Friends of the
Arboretum, and Pat Long will put an article in the Blair newspaper.
2007 plans and coals for parks. Members proposed these goals for 2007: the new Lions Park picnic
shelter (see above); playground signage if mandated by the State Legislature; fencing around the skate
park by Sept. 1; regular park grounds safety checks; trimming and mulching trees and shrubs; playground
lights at Stemmerman Park; planting of trees; and developing an inventory of existing trees, a master plan,
and a tree nursery. A goal for 2008 is constructing a tipi shelter at Black Elk - Neihardt Park.
Tyson loe cabin. Jon Stewart asked Board members to suggest sites for relocating the 19 century Tyson
log cabin that has been disassembled and moved from rural Washington County near the Missouri River.
Everyone agreed that the best locations would be either the Rhoades Rose Garden or the lawn of the
Washington County Courthouse.
Election of officers for 2007, Ardee Pounds' motion, seconded by Jim Peterson, to re -elect the
current slate of officers, was carried. Officers for 2007 will be Neil Jensen, president; Kathy Kuster,
vice president; and Ann George, secretary.
