The Blair Park Board met at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, at Black Elk - Neihardt Park. Members present:
Neil Jensen, president; Ann George, secretary; Roger Petersen, Jim Peterson, Ardee Pounds. Blair Parks
Department: Pat Long. Not present: Kathy Kuster
Reading and Approval of May 10, 2006, Minutes
Ardee Pounds's motion to approve the minutes of the May 10 meeting was seconded by Roger
Petersen and carried.
Approval of Bills
There were no bills needing approval.

Old Business
Black Elk - Neihardt Park as line nroiect Later in the meeting members walked to the former gas line
site and the new site to view the newly sown grass and newly planted trees.
Preliminary tlricinp for directional si'nage for narks. Pat Long said that he hasn't yet received any bills
for the signs directing visitors to city parks that the State Department of Roads is putting together.
New Business
Discussion o nark descriptions for web vaee u date. Ardee Pounds and Ann George read the park
descriptions t prepared. Other members will present their writeups at the July meeting. Ann George
will collect all of the descriptions and give them to Brenda for the web page.
l iy ( of niqts ible future shelters. Pat Long gave members a preliminary drawing for a proposed
tips -like picnic shelter for Black Elk- Neihardt Park; he said that the local Black Elk- Neihardt Commission
would be involved in plans for the shelter.
Discussion of trans lantinf. of Scotch nines to new trail. Members formulated the following resolution
to Rod Storm: Res Because pine wilt disease is killing Scotch pines in Blair and this region,
and because there is no cure, the Blair Park Board strongly advises that the plantings along the trail
between Lions Park and Arbor School not be Scotch pine. The Board also strongly advises that the
plantings not be of any single species. It also recommends that whatever trees are planted not be
placed so close together and not in straight rows. Neil Jensen, president; Kathy Kuster, Vice

trees were planted either on Wednesday, the day of the Park Board meeting, or the following day, this
resolution was not sent.)
Report from Arboretum Curator
Curator Neil Jensen reported that the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum is creating a database including
mapping of trees for Arboretum sites across the state.
The Board will meet at 7 p.m. on July 12 at Ridgeview Park.
