Subject: Wal Mart Development
Good Morning,
I had a conversation a few days ago with the project superintendent for the new Wal Mart store under construction
here in Blair about the payment to the city for the fire hydrant relocation requested by Wal Mart to allow for their east
entrance off of Hollie Street. He informed me that his company, DKC has a history of not paying their bills in a very
timely manner. Blair spent $3613 to Henton Trenching to move the fire hydrant and we have sent DKC an invoice the
first part of November for this amount per the directions of the design engineer and DKC's own email stating there is a
$12,000 allowance in their contract with Wal Mart for the fire hydrant relocation. As the Wal Mart store comes closer
to being completed I feel we need to do something to protect the tax payers of Blair and get our reimbursement for the
fire hydrant relocation. I suggest notifying Wal Mart that an occupancy permit will not be issued until the city is
reimburse for the work completed. Please advise as to your thoughts on this issue.
