Building Code Analysis
Sprinklers: Per 903.2.11.3 — Exception 3, an automatic sprinkler system is not required
at Group F -2 occupancies.
903.2.11.3 Buildings 55 feet or more in height.
An automatic sprinkler system shall be installed throughout buildings with a
floor level having an occupant load of 30 or more that is located 55 feet (16764
mm) or more above the lowest level of fire department vehicle access.
Exceptions:
1. Airport control towers

According to Evonik (Blair, NE), the existing fermentation structure and the proposed fermentation
addition is normally an unoccupied equipment enclosure with less than 7 occupants at any one time.
Means of Egress (per IBC, Chapter 10)
A. Max. Travel Distance (per Table 1016.1)
a. Use Group F -2 unsprinkled = 300 feet
B. Minimum number of exists required (per Table 1021.1)
a. Occupant load per story of 1— 500: 2 exits
C. Maximum length of Dead End corridors (per Section 1018.4 — Dead Ends): Where more than
one exit or exit access doorway is required, the exit access shall be arranged such that there
are no dead end corridors more than 20 feet (6096 mm) in length.
D. Width of exit passageways (per Section 1023.2 Width) and corridors (per Section 1018.2
Corridor width)
The width of exit passageways shall be determined as specified in Section 1005.1 but
such width shall not be less than 44 inches (1118 mm), except that exit passageways
serving an occupant load of less than 50 shall not be less than 36 inches (914 mm) in
width. The required width of exit passageways shall be unobstructed.
E. Common path of egress travel — Section 1014.3, In occupancies other than Groups H -1, H -2
and H -3, the common path of egress travel shall not exceed 75 feet (22860 mm).
