Dear Mr. Wolfe:
Thank you for your review of our first concrete and structural steel package submittals for a building permit. Although, we
were hoping for a clean review, we do appreciate your comments and we have addressed each of your points as stated in
your email response to Mr. Robert Kilpatrick on June 16, 2011, as follows:
1 After further review of the 2009 International Building Code (IBC), we will revise our letter, Building Code Analysis,
from a'4 story with a mezzanine level and multiple platforms'to a'1 story with multilevel equipment platforms'. This
will also allow the work to be in compliance with Table 503 which allows up to 3 stories for a non- sprinklered F -2
occupancy of type II -B construction.
2 Will add 3' x 6' -8" nominal, standard pedestrian doors at grade and at locations not to exceed 50' along the east wall
to comply with Section 903.2.11.1 for fire department access.
3 The new work does not include any new enclosed stair towers; whereas, a standpipe is common to have in place
with enclosed stair towers. We were also following historical precedent as a standpipe does not exist in the existing,
much larger Fermentation building and the new 2011 Evaporator building. Therefore, based on the preceding
statements, it was not planned to install a standpipe.
4 An exiting plan will be provided showing travel distances and directions to an exit or exit enclosure
5 We do not have any new interior exit ways. With the addition of item 2 above, exit doors to the exterior will be in
place at grade. Other exiting will be by the removal of the existing common wall between the existing Fermentation
building and the new Fermentation building addition. This will be completely removed for the full height and width of
our expansion. Exiting from these new, generally unoccupied platforms will be by new walkways leading into the
existing Fermentation building and then following the exit paths of the existing Fermentation building and the
Administration building. Therefore, we feel no enclosures are required.
