RE: P4142.11505 Midwest Lysine 2011 Biolys Expansion
Purpose: To give a general description for the Blair Building Inspector and State Fire
Marshall in support of submitting our plans for review and approval.
General: Evonik Degussa owns and operates a Lysine production facility in Blair
Nebraska. Lysine production is done thru fermentation of dextrose into a lysine broth
which is then evaporated and dried. The P4142.11505 project is being executed to
increase the capacity of this production. P4142.11505 used through out the drawings to
point out scope of work for the project.
The project involves the addition of four bays to the east of the existing fermentation
structure which will house new fermentation equipment. The project includes a new
granulation structure east of existing granulation structures. The equipment in the new
structure will be used to dry and granulate Lysine. Our process stream is non-
hazardous materials, generally Lysine, Water, and Biomass. Additionally the existing
utility building will be expanded to the east to house new chiller equipment. Two new
cooling tower cells will be added south of the existing cooling towers. Also, an existing
MCC room addition in the fermentation building and a new MCC room next to the new
granulation structure will be build to house Motor Controls that power the fermentation,
granulation and utility equipment. New transformers will be installed to power the Motor
Control Center.
