This is to make all aware that Official State Interpretation 96 -05, dealing with the encroachment
of the five -foot turning radius in a single user toilet shall be eliminated.
SNAG requires a five -foot turning circle within a single user toilet. Section 4.22.2 states that the
door shall not swing into the clear space of any fixture. The section does not restrict the door to
swing into the turning circle. This will apply to both new and remodeled restrooms.
The clear floor space for a lavatory, Title 156, 4.19.3 A clear floor space 30" x 48" complying
with 4.2.3 shall be provided in front of a lavatory forward approach. Clear floor space may
overlap accessible route and shall extend a maximum of 19" under the lavatory.
The clear floor space for a water closet not located in a stall, Title 156, 4.16.2. As shown below.
Space at least 60 inches wide is necessary for side transfers and when provided a 56 inch depth is permitted for either
a forward or side approach because of the maneuvering space available beside the water closet.

If the lavatory is located less than 42 inches from the toilet centerline, a side transfer is not possible. Clear floor space
less than 60 inches wide is dimensioned in length specifically for diagonal or perpendicular transfers based on the
approach.
