Approval of Bills There were no bills needing approval. Old Business Further discussion of new playground equipment for parks. We discussed the need to replace playground equipment, in particular swing sets, to be up to code with the National Playground Safety Code and the ADA. Solid surfacing (mats, tiles, or poured in place) is now also required, Pat Long said. He told board members that the Parks Department will have $28,000 available this coming year for playground equipment, and he distributed a list with these recommendations: The purchase of four two -bay arch -type swing sets at $1,883 each that were illustrated and described in a catalog he circulated. Members suggested ordering a different color for each park (the choices: hunter green, red, yellow, and royal blue), with a preference of hunter green for the set at Black Elk - Neihardt Park. The slide at Black Elk - Neihardt Park also has to be replaced because it isn't up to code (cost: $1,679 for a 15 -foot slide). Other needed purchases include four playground rules signs ($800 each) and nine 40- gallon trash cans at $372.37 each. It was suggested that Recycling Center board members might be willing to contribute half of the amount for the trash cans. Altogether these purchases total $15,762.33.
