Re: Novozymes Loading Dock Inspections
Novozymes has contracted with Zachry Engineering for the engineering support of
the design and construction of their dock at the CBI facility in Blair. Novozymes has
contracted with Terracon Consultants, Inc. for the Structural Tests and Special
Inspections in accordance with the IBC, chapter 17.
STATEMENT OF SPECIAL INSPECTIONS
Table 1704.4 Required verification and inspection of Concrete Construction
1. Inspection of reinforcing steel - periodic visual inspection
4. Verifying use of required design mix - periodic visual inspection
5. Sampling fresh concrete for test cylinders, slump, air content, and temperature
- continuous testing during concrete placement
6. Inspection of concrete placement for proper techniques - continuous testing
during concrete placement
7. Inspection for maintenance of specified curing temperatures - periodic visual
inspection with high -low thermometer(s)
11. Inspect formwork for proper size, shape and location - periodic visual
inspection

2. Verify excavations extend to proper depth and have reached proper bearing

1. Verify pile materials, sizes, and lengths comply with the requirements -
continuous visual observation
2. Observe driving operations and maintain complete and accurate records for
each pile - continuous visual observation
3. Verify placement locations and plumbness, confirm type and size of hammer,
record number of blows per foot of penetration, determine required
penetrations to achieve design capacity, record tip and butt elevations and
document any pile damage - continuous visual observation
