08-11-2010Minutes, Blair Park Board Meeting August 11, 2010 Roll Call Members of the Blair Park Board met at 7 p.m., Wednesday, August 11, in the City Hall Council Chamber. Members present: Neil Jensen, president; Jeene Hobbs, vice president; Ann George, secretary; Ardee Pounds, Steven Tonn. Blair Parks Department: Pat Long. Not present: Roger Petersen Reading and Approval of April 14, 2010, Minutes Ann George corrected the last part of the paragraph titled "Trails project update" in the July 21 minutes to read, "ending at 15 Street." Ardee Pounds's motion to approve the July 21 minutes was seconded by Steve Tonn and carried. Approval of Bills There were no bills needing approval. Old Business Discussion of progress on playground signaee. Pat Long reported that he and Phil Green will work out the wording for the large, double -sided signs, which will cost about $800 -825 each. Ardee Pounds's motion to approve ordering the signs (the large ones with yellow support posts) was seconded by Steve Tonn and carried. Depending on the budget (Pat said that he should know what it is by the September meeting), the large signs will be purchased for Steyer and Lions Club Parks, and for Stemmerman if the budget allows. New Business Review of present playground equipment for each park. Pat Long gave board members an inventory of the playground equipment at each of the city parks. He estimated next year's budget for playground equipment at $25,000. He said that he'd like to replace the sand at one of the playgrounds — perhaps at Rhoades -- with a rubber mulch to see how well it holds up. Members also discussed adding a climbing wall at Steyer Park. Friends of Arboretum meetine. Members of this group will continue their work on an inventory of the trees at Black Elk - Neihardt Park and recording them at their August 18 meeting. The next City Park Board meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8. Members will meet first at City Hall and then visit two parks: Rhoades at approximately 7:15 p.m. and after that, Black Elk - Neihardt Park.
