05-04-1989Blair Park Board Minutes May 4, 1989 Meeting was called to order by President Marilyn Gentry. Members present were Ralph Steyer, Roger Hohensee, Judy Sick, Marilyn Gentry and Gene Solomon. Absent was George Wilson. Minutes of the March 2, meeting were read and approved. Old Business: Notice was received that we were awarded the Cooperative Conservation contract (attached) from the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. The contract was read and found agreeable to the group. The plant material was ordered on April 12, but no word has been received. Gene is to call to check on this. Ralph announced that we had received 100 free trees from the U.S. Forestry greenhouse (40 Scotch, 30 Ponderosa, 30 Austrian). Some of these can go in the wildlife area. The street trees have been planted. There were 20 in all. These were purchased trees (10 Redmond Linden, 10 Little Leaf Linden). New Business: Ralph read a list of plant material we received from the Plant Intro- duction Center and also, a letter from Dave Mooter concerning goals objectives of the Blair Arboretum. (Copy Attached) Gene reported that Lloyd Peterson has been asking to have a row of trees planted along the South and West side of the parking lot at Vet's Field. It is too late for this year and was suggested that the Park Board recommend the type and spacing, and the City or Recreation board purchase the trees. The group suggested about 10 trees would be needed and good species might be: Redmond Linden, Summit Ash, and Imperial Honey Locust. Marilyn will call Verna Bull and discuss a solution. Ralph reported a balance of $1,025.99 in the account of the Blair Parks Arboretum. We again discussed marking and recording the trees. It was decided we wait until Dave Mooter comes and find out exactly what type of records are needed. Meeting adjourned at 9:00 P.M. Judy Sick, Secy Pro Tem
