11-05-1992BI AIR PARK BOARD MINUTES
November 5, 1992
•
The meeting of the Blair Park Board was called to order at 7:55 p.m.
Board members present were: Bob Leonard, Marilyn Gentry, Jim Peterson and Bill
Trisdale. Also in attendance were curator Ralph Steyer and Park Superintendent Dale
Stricklett.
Minutes of the previous meeting were accepted with a correction of the spelling of City
Administrator's name, spelling corrected from Stork to Storm. (Sorry, Rod, we did not
mean to misspell the boss' name!!)
There were no bills presented at this meeting.
No specific report on Arboretum activity was given except a notation that it has contributed
over $5,000.00 worth of materials to the parks. These are mostly things that can't be
purchased from local nurseries.
The nursery is being rapidly depleted at its present location and planted to different
locations throughout the city. The present site will probably become more parking for the
sports complex. We will need to set up a new location in the near future, probably in
January or February. A motion for same by Peterson, seconded by Marilyn Gentry. Motion
carried.
A possible new group, to be called "Friends of the Arboretum" is in the works. Some names
were submitted at this meeting. There were as follows: Tom Jackson, Dave Walsh, Bruce
Weber, Betsy Anderson and Patty Kubie. A committee to contact these people consists of
Marilyn Gentry and Bill Trisdale.
The R. V. Park is starting to shape up. The blacktop is in and Bob Hardy will be contacted
about putting snow fence up to keep the railroad's heavy equipment from driving on it.
A map of the boat ramp and adjoining projects connected with the boat ramp was looked
at by the Board. The plan was drawn up by Steve R. Andersen, Architect. He resides at
1349 Prospect Street, Blair, NE. His phone is 426 -3146. No action was taken at this time.
Maps for the Blair Park System are still eluding us. This is Gene Solomon's project and he
was absent.
Dale Stricklett gave us a very fine report of just what he and his crew do around the city
and is to be commended for their activities. "I quite frankly don't know how they get it all
done. The work they do, far exceeds their primary responsibilities." Within his report was
• a discussion about barbecue grills needing replaced or at new sights. There is a need for
two sizes: a large one 1040" square ($236) at Black Elk Park. Eight small grills, 320" square
and located at Lions Park, one or two; one at Lions shelter in the main park, and eight grills
for the R. V. Park. Dale is working on this project now. Again, his presence was greatly
appreciated and we look forward to another visit.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:45 p.m. by a motion from
Peterson, second by Gentry.
Respectfully submitted,
Bill Trisdale
Park Board Secretary
