BLAIR PARK BOARD
MEETING OP JUNE 3, 1993
The June meeting of the Blair Palk Board was called to order
at 7 :33 p.m. by President Bob Leonard. Members present were
Marilyn Gentry, George Wilson, Jim Peterson and Bill Trisdale.
Also present were Park Curator,Ralph Steyer and Park Superintendent
Dale Stricklett.
Previous minutes were accepted as read.
Dale Stricklett gave a report on the progress in the park
system. The agenda is behind due to all the rain we having been
enjoying.
The subject on the boat dock also was discussed in his report.
It was pointed out that this will probably be another
responsibility of the park system. By an unanimous vote of the
Board, they will request that the Park Board be given a written
estimation of the costs of said project and notification of exactly
what duties, if any, that the optimist club will be responsible
for. The Board also would like a written estimate on the R.V. Park
for the same reasons as above. It was noted that the Park crew may
have to be expanded to handle the increase work load.
Ralph Steyer gave his report on the status of plantings along
the trails and the cost of same. It was noted that this
responsibility would come under the "Friends of the Arboretum"
activities and they should be made aware of the need to assist him
in this matter.
Playground equipment discussion was put on hold until the July
meeting. George Wilson and Bob Leonard will have a report at that
time.
A motion was made by Wilson, second by Leonard to limit
parking on 20th Street (next to the R.V. Park entrance) to 15
minutes for the convenience of campers. All members present voted
Aye. Motion was carried and will recommend to Council to approve
the R.V. park rules with this motion.
Another item was presented and discussed briefly as to the
request for advance reservations of shelters in the various parks.
It was decided to not take advance reservations but leaving it
based on the first come first serve rule in place. This procedure
has worked well in the past and the Board could see no reason to
change it. The idea of advance reservations died from lack of a
motion.
The main shelter in the pool park is in dire need of repairs
and the board strongly urges it to be done and the cost written
into the 1993 -94 budget.
City Administrator Storm requested a motion to change the
Blair Arboretum Fund to the "Friends of the Arboretum Fund" and
send the check to their treasurer and to relieve the City of any
and all responsibility of same.
p.m.
There being no further business, meeting was adjourned at 9:00
Respectfully submitted,
Bill Trisdale
Park Board Secretary
