05-05-1993• • Blair Park Board Minutes May 5, 1993 The meeting was called to order by President Bob Leonard. Members present were Bob Leonard, Jim Peterson, Marilyn Gentry and George Wilson. Also present were Carol Bagby, Steve Stodola, DeLloyd Moore, Jim Judt and Ralph Steyer. Also Rod Storm and Dale Stricklett. Minutes of the April meeting were approved as handed out. • Peterson moved and Wilson seconded the motion that the visitors make their presentations first. Motion carried. Stodola, Moore and Judt, representing the Optimist Club,presented proposed plans for the new boat dock and park. After much discussion, Peterson moved and Wilson seconded the motion that the nark board apprthve the concept of the dock and park and that Leonard appoint two park members to serve on a committee to select the consultant whose name would be presented to the city council for approval. Motion carried. Leonard appointed himself and 4,ilson to be on that committee. Carol Bagby, representing the Black-Elk Neihardt Park Board, reported that the mosaics on the pedestals in the park are in need of repair. Questions were raised as to whom the responsibility be- longed since the Tower had been turned over to the city. Rod and Carol agreed that they need to look into the agreement between that board and the city to uetermine responsibility. At the present time no funds are available from the park budget. Rod Storm reported on the report by the Insurance Company which curies the city liability insurance that they had these concerns: (that more sand and gravel be placed under and around the playground equipment,; that the pole with the two chains hanging down be re- moved; that the big slide be moved; that the monkey bars in the west part of Steyer Park be removed.) Wilson moved and Peterson seconded the motion the new spiral slide be placed where the pole and chains are removed. Peterson moved to amend the motion to include that playground equipment be purchased yet this fiscal year to be placed west of the street where the large sl de and ,.onkey bars are now. Amended motion carried. Much discussion was Held concerning the reserving; of shelters by groups. There have been many calls concernipg this. At the present time it is on a first come first served basis. Possible fee was also discussed. • Wilson reported that the roof on the shelter at Steyer Park is in bad condition and should be repaired. Rod suggested that we in clude this in requests for 1993 - budget. Ralph Steyer reported that there is $675.00 in the arboretum fund. Rod requested an explanation. It was suggested by hod that this fund's name be changed to Friends of the Arboretum fund and that theme be nm city responsibility. Ralph also reported that a meeting of several state wide curators will be held this summer. It is the feeling of the board that no formal approval is necessary. Ralph reported that the Friends of the Arboretum are corning along fine. Mapping and other activities are progressing. Meeting adjourned at 9:30 P.M. George MJilson Secy. Pro -tem .
