Blair Park Board Meeting
June 10, 1998
The June meeting of the Blair Park Board was called to order by President Kathy Kuster at 7:30
p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 1998. The meeting was held at the City Hall Council Chambers.
Those present included Kathy Kuster, Jim Peterson, Mary Sue Pook and Neil Jensen. Absent:
Donna Mahlendorf & Bobbie Cade. Pat Long, superintendent of the Blair Parks was present as
were Kus Kuster, Judy Seaver and Bruce Weber.
A motion was made by Jim Peterson, seconded by Mary Sue Pook, to accept the minutes of the
April 8th meeting of the Park Board, as amended. Motion was carried.
A motion was made by Jim Peterson, seconded by Mary Sue Pook, to pays bills to Luxa for dirt
work completed at Ridge View Park in the amount of $1250 and to Ace Hardware for hydrants in
Rose Garden (2 @ $320) and Ridge View Park (2 @ $320) in the amount of $640. Motion was
carried.
Neil Jensen, arboretum curator, discussed events at the June 5 NSA curators meeting held in the
Schuyler /Columbus area. Tours of the Railside Green Arboretum in Schuyler and the West
Pawnee Park Arboretum in Columbus. Julie Miller was introduced. Julie is a summer intern for
NSA. NSA is making her available to local arboretum sites for a variety of projects as needed by
the arboretum. Blair arboretum will request assistance in ordering tree labels in Steyer Park. In
addition, Neil reported that flowers were planted next to the two signs in Steyer Park. Thanks
goes to Kus & Kathy Kuster for the tilling the beds and to Susie Meyer and Jenny Warrick for
planting approximately 200 plants. Planted were variegated hostas, 6 coreopsis and mixed
marigolds and allysum (white). Cub Scouts from Den 3, Pack 232 placed wood chips around
several trees in Steyer Park. It was a wet, fun afternoon!
Pat Long reviewed progress made in the parks. The grant, to be used at Ridge View Park, from
the Papio - Missouri River NRD was approved in the amount of $9750. Luxa completed dirt work
at Ridge View Park and the hillside was seeded to crown vetch by Wes Sprick. Some of the
seeding will have to be redone due to recent rains. Meter pits and 2 water hydrants were
installed. 2 water hydrants were installed at Rose Garden.
Play ground committee reported that 2 grills were installed at Steyer Park (1 replacement and 1
new), a spring toy installed in Lions Park, sand diggers installed at Black Elks, Rose Garden,
R.V., and Lions. Swingset being installed at Steyer.
Plans were finalized for Arts in the Park. The Washington County Master Gardeners agreed to
• hold 2 tours of the trees in Steyer Park at 5 and 8 p.m.. Other activities were reviewed.

With no further business, President Kathy Kuster adjourned the meeting at 8:20 p.m.. Motion by
Jim Peterson, seconded by Mary Sue Pook.
