04-08-1998• • • The March meeting of the Blair Park Board was called to order by President Kathy Kuster at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 1998. The meeting was held at the City Hall Council Chambers. Those present included Kathy Kuster, Jim Peterson, Bobbie Cade and Neil Jensen. Absent: Donna Mahlendorf & Mary Sue Pook. Pat Long, superintendent of the Blair Parks was present as were Mayor Mick Mines, Tom Jackson, Merna Brown, Kus Kuster, Judy Seaver, Bruce Weber, Jenny Warrick and others. A motion was made by Bobbie Cade, seconded by Neil Jensen, to accept the minutes of the February 11th meeting of the Park Board. Motion was carried. No bills were submitted for payment. Blair Park Board Meeting April 8, 1998 Pat Long presented the name for the new park, Ridge View Park, as approved by City Council. An arbor day celebration will be held April 24th at Ridge View Park at 2:00 p.m. Trees will be planted by grade school students. Nancy McIntosh will be award $50 Blair Bucks for suggesting the winning name. Neil Jensen agreed to make a certificate and thank you for the ceremonies. Dave Nannan, Chamber of Commerce Image Committee, asked for assistance in developing plans for a trails system for the community and surrounding area. Discussion centered on plans that were put together by college students for the City of Blair. A meeting date of April 22, 7:30 p.m., at the Council Chambers was set. (Note: Trails discussion took place during the Friends of the Blair Community Arboretum meeting prior to the Park Board meeting 7:00 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.). A grant writing conference is being held June 17, 18 & 19 at Lindsborough, Kansas. Fees for the conference is $100 (includes room and board). Pat Long is planning on attending, The City of Blair has been approved to participate in the Nebraska Community Foundation. This program will allow persons to donate funds (tax deductible) to be used for projects in the community. This is option that the Park Board and Friends of the Blair Community Arboretum can use instead of 501C designation. Further details are needed on how the moneys are allocated. Pat Long indicated that he would contact the members of the playground committee to set a time to meet and discuss future purchases. Huntel will be sponsoring "Jazz in the Park" at Steyer Park on June 12 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 • p.m. Playing will be the "Luigi Jazz Band ". • A motion was made by Neil Jensen, seconded by Jim Peterson, that the Park Board agree to suggest 6 to 12 names for Arts in the Park. In addition, the Park Board will assist with parking. Motion carried. Friends of the Blair Community Arboretum have agreed to assist with parking and a possible tour of the trees in the park. A discussion of signage for Black Elk Trail System. Pat Long and Tom Jackson showed designs they were planning to use.
