03-07-1996• • • Blair Park Board Minutes March 7, 1996 The March Meeting of the Blair Park Board was called to order by Acting President Jim Peterson at the Blair City Hall Conference Room beginning at 7:30 p.m. Those present included Marysue Pook, Kathy Kuster, Gene Solomon, and Jim Peterson. Blair City Park Superintendent Pat Long was also present for the meeting. Gene Solomon moved, seconded by Marysue Pook to accept the minutes as mailed. Motion carried. The motion was made by Kathy Kuster, seconded by Marysue Pook, that the April Meeting be postponed until Thursday, April 11. Marysue Pook agreed to serve as a caller to contact members for this change. Motion carried. Pat Long presented the Board with a bill for $500.00 from Menards for 4 x 6 x 12 posts to be used around the playground equipment. These will be used for equipment around Stemmerman, Black Elk, and R.V. Parks. There probably will be some left over for the Rose Park. Pat also estimated that 32 tons of sand at $8.00 per ton will arrive to be placed around the play ground equipment. Old Business. 1. Arbor Dav Plans - It was moved by Marysue Pook, seconded by Gene Solomon, that the Arbor Day Celebration be held on Saturday, April 20th beginning at 10:00 a.m. The celebration will be held at the Hardy R V. Park. Special guests to be invited include Mayor Mick Mines, and District Forester Dave Mooter from the Douglas County Extension Office. Boy Scout Pack 232 and 143 would also be invited to plant the trees. The trees would include an evergreen from Neihardt Park and one Persiminon tree donated by Gene Solomon. Pat Long agreed to take care of the details on the trees. Specific Duties included the following: - Jim Peterson - Contact the Mayor, Dave Mooter and the Newspaper about the Program. - Marysue Pook - Contact Boy Scout Packs 232, 143, and Girl Scouts. - Kathy Kuster - Contact Friends of the Arboretum. The Friends of the Arboretum and Park Board Members are encouraged to attend the City Council Meeting on April 9th for the official signing of the proclamation of Arbor Day. The motion was made by Kathy Kuster, seconded by Marysue Pook, that Tree City Flags be placed around Blair during Arbor Week Observance from Saturday, April 20th through Saturday, April 27th. Motion carried. Kathy Kuster will also contact Bruce Weber from "Friends of the Arboretum" to write articles about the trees to be planted. 2. Grant for Proposed Trail at Dana College. - Discussion was held on a proposed grant from the State of Nebraska Environmental Trust Funds to build a trail at Dana College. The Trust Funds required a letter from the Park Board. This is a three year project from 1997 through 1999. It would help in the purchase of a wood chipper for the city. The motion was made by Marysue Pook, seconded by Gene Solomon, to support the grant application to the Nebraska Environmental Trust Funds for this support. Motion carried. 3. The appointment of officers was tabled until the next meeting on April 11th. 4. Marysue Pook and Kathy Kuster volunteered and were appointed to the playground and tables subcommittee for the Blair Park Board. 5. The work on the one and five year park plan was tabled until the next board meeting on April 11th. 6. The motion was made by Kathy Kuster, seconded by Gene Solomon, to purchase Autumn Brown Shingles for the Lion Shelter. Motion carried. Motion was made by Gene Solomon to adjourn.
