Blair Park Board Meeting
October 11, 2000
The Blair Park Board met at the City Hall at 7:30 p.m. on October 11, 2000. The meeting was called to order by
President Neil Jensen. Other members present were Tom Jackson, Kathy Kuster, Jim Petersen, and Ann George. Pat
Long represented the Blair Parks Department. Jennie Warwick and Kus Kuster were also present.
A motion by Jim Petersen to accept the minutes of the July 12, 2000, Park Board meeting was seconded by
Kathy Kuster and carried.
Old Business
No bills were presented.
Pat Long reported that putting in sidewalks at Steyer Park had used up the playground equipment budget. He also
reported that paving at the new shop had been completed.
Marty Shukert, a city planning consultant, will give a presentation on proposed city trails on Friday, October 13, at
10 a.m. in the City Council chambers, an event sponsored by the Trails Committee of the Blair Chamber of
Commerce. Members commented on the need to consider aesthetic values as well as convenience.
Neil Jensen and Pat Long attended the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum meeting in Lincoln on September 29 where
information was presented on grant programs, including those offered by the Nebraska Community Enhancement
Program and Nebraska Greenspace.
Pat Long said that city administrator Rod Storm had asked him to put grant applications on hold for trails in Steyer
IP and Black Elk - Neihardt Parks.
In response, the following motion was made by Jim Petersen and seconded by Kathy Kuster: That Pat Long
ask the city administrator for an explanation of the reasons for a hold on grant applications for trails through
Ralph Steyer and Black Elk - Neihardt Parks. The motion was carried.
Neil Jensen said that posts for tree identification labels still need to be installed. He will get in touch with Bruce
Weber.
New Business
Jim Petersen said that a four -state forestry program will be held at the Lied Center in Nebraska City on Saturday,
November 18.
An invoice has been received from the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum for $100 for 2000 -01 affiliate site dues.
A motion to adjourn by Jim Petersen and seconded by Tom Jackson was carried.
The next meeting will be held on November 8 at 7:30 p.m.
