The Blair Park Board met at the City Hall at 7:30 p.m. on September 12, 2001. The meeting was
called to order by President Neil Jensen. Other members present were Kathy Kuster, Jim
Peterson, and Ann George. Pat Long represented the Blair Parks Department. Jennie Warrick
and Kus Kuster also attended the meeting.
Jim Peterson's motion that the minutes of the June 13, 2001, Park Board meeting be
approved was seconded by Kathy Kuster. The motion was carried.
Approval of Bills. There were no bills needing approval. Pat Long said that the new budget
year begins on October 1.
Old Business. Plans for the arboretum/parks brochure were discussed. Ann George said that
Elizabeth Nelson, who operates "At Your Service," an organization that welcomes newcomers
to Blair, would include the brochure among its handouts. It would use approximately 360
brochures a year. Neil Jensen and Pat Long will take the remaining photos needed for the
brochure.
New Business. Pat Long said that a local Boy Scout developing an Eagle Scout project had
talked to him about the possibility of his building a shelter at Black Elk - Neihardt Park. Pat also
said that the Steyer Park sign is being replaced and that new signs for Black Elk - Neihardt and
Rhoades Parks will be installed later.
Report of Arboretum Curator. Curator Neil Jensen said that the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum
had notified him that it plans to register a hosta developed by Ralph Steyer. The NSA proposes
naming it "Little Ralph." Neil and Pat will put in tree identification posts and tags by the end of
October.
Kathy Kuster's motion that the meeting be adjourned was seconded by Jim Peterson and
carried.
The next meeting will be held on October 10, 2001, at 7:30 p.m.
