The Blair Park Board met at City Hall at 7:30 p.m. on March 13, 2002. Members present: Neil Jensen, Kathy Kuster, Ardee Pounds and
Ann George. Pat Long represented the Blair Parks Department. Kus Kuster also attended. Members not present: Donna Malhlendorf,
Jim Peterson
Kathy Kuster's motion that the minutes of the February Park Board meeting be approved was seconded by Ardee Pounds. The
motion was carried. (Secretary's note: The Park Board met on February 13, not on February 18 as indicated by the minutes.)
Approval of Bills
There were no major bills needing approval.

Old Business
Parks Brochure. Neil Jensen said that he hoped to get a photo of Ralph Steyer within the week. He'll also call HunTel about a map of
Blair. Pat Long said that he'd found a map that might work. There was a discussion about copyright.
Siinafe for Rhoades. Black Elk and Stever Parks. Pat Long said that the Black Elk - Neihardt organization would contribute $200 for
signage at that park; another $200 should be available from Friends of the Arboretum. The signs have been ordered.
Plantings. Pat Long reported that Woodmen of the World would like to do plantings at Rhoades, Black Elk - Neihardt, and Steyer Parks.
Some plants from the Courthouse will also be available for city parks.
Directional Sk'nai'e for Parks. Pat said that nine directional signs would be needed. The cost ranges from $35 to $65 each. Directional
signs are already in place for Black Elk - Neihardt Park, although arrows are missing. This could be a two -year project.
Business
t ese by Don Bock Don Bock asked members to approve his concealing a "geocacheing" box at Black Elk - Neihardt Park for
geocacheing participants to find using GPS. He described the new activity as a "high tech treasure hunt." It was suggested that he also
notify the Blair Police Department in case a non - participant finds the box and is alarmed. Ardee Pounds moved that Bock's proposed
project be approved; the motion was seconded by Kathy Kuster and carried.
Easter Erg Hunt at Stever Park Pat Long said that the City Council had approved an Easter egg hunt at Steyer Park sponsored by the
Optimists.
Plans for Arbor Day Celebration on April 26. Pat Long proposed that this year's Arbor Day observance be held at Black Elk - Neihardt
Park in conjunction with the dedication of the Gene Solomon memorial bench and that a tree be planted southwest of the bench. The
ceremony will probably be held at 2 p.m. Neil Jensen said he'd contact West School for elementary school participation.
Other Business. Pat Long described Eagle Scout projects tentatively proposed for several parks. Members also agreed to a suggestion that
future Park Board minutes include the names of members not present.
Report of the Arboretum Curator.
Neil Jensen said that the Community Foundation had asked about projects; he'll get in touch with them about assisting with financing
signage.
Kathy Kuster's motion that the meeting be adjourned was seconded by Ardee Pounds and carried. The next meeting is set for
April 10.
