2010-03RESOLUTION NO. 2010 — 3
COUNCIL MEMBER ABBOTT INTRODUCED THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION:
WHEREAS the Boy Scouts of America incorporated on February 8, 1910 and chartered by
Congress in 1916 to provide an educational program for boys and young adults to build character,
to train them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship and to develop personal fitness;
WHEREAS for 100 years, the Boy Scouts of America has created a strong foundation of leadership,
service and community for millions of America's youth;
WHEREAS the Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation's largest and most prominent
values -based youth development organizations;
WHEREAS the mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical
and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law;
WHEREAS the Boy Scouts of America provides a program for young people which builds the
future leaders of this county by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun;
WHEREAS the Boy Scouts of America believes and, through a century of experience knows, that
helping youth is a key to building a more conscientious, responsible and productive society;
Now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and City Council of the City of Blair, Nebraska
that it:
1. Recognizes and supports a "Year of Celebration, A Century of Making a
Difference" for the Boy Scouts of America from September 1, 2009 through
December 31, 2010
2. Supports the goals and values of the Scout Oath and Law and encourages
participation in the Boy Scouts of America organization which inspires and
prepares future generations.
3. Encourages people in our community to participate in any events, initiatives or
activities sponsored by local Boy Scout Troops to help them celebrate this legacy
over the upcoming year.
COUNCIL MEMBER ABBOTT MOVED THAT THE RESOLUTION BE ADOPTED AS
READ, WHICH SAID MOTION WAS SECONDED BY COUNCIL MEMBER KEPHART.
UPON ROLL CALL, COUNCIL MEMBERS VOTING "AYE" STEWART, KEPHART,
CHRIS T IANSEN, WOLFF, ABBOTT AND JENSEN AND COUNCIL MEMBERS NONE
VOTING "NAY ", THE MAYOR DECLARED THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION PASSED
AND ADOPTED THIS 26TH DAY OF JANUARY, 2010.
