RE: Removal of Scotch pine
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Green,
It has been brought to our attention there is a Scotch pine tree on your property that has been determined for
removal.
These trees have been inspected by Mark Hodson, Public Works Superintendent and the Chip Murrow, State
Arborist. They have both determined the tree is dead, diseased or damaged beyond recovery, due to pine wilt
and should be removed for safety and sanitation. The Blair Municipal Code Section 6-312 states "all trees and
shrubs within the City of Blair shall be pruned or removed when such trees or shrubs constitute a hazard to life
and property, or harbor insects or diseases or are damaged to the extent they constitute a threat to other trees or
shrubs, persons or property within the City. Enclosed please find a copy of the city ordinance for your
reference.
Therefore, based on the above information, you are hereby notified to remove this tree or have the tree removed
by a registered tree contractor. Please contact our office within (15) days to discuss this matter and confirm you
are able to remove this violation within (60) days. If you are unable to remove these trees, the city will hire a
contractor to remove the trees and bill you for the service, giving you (30) days to payor the city will assess
these charges against your property for payment.
Again, please contact our office by December 21, 2009 to confirm compliance with this request. If you have
any questions, feel free to contact me.
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
Sincerely,

Dear Mark,
This letter is in regards to the trees we looked at on October 23rd in Blair. The following
assessment was made from the ground only. A complete assessment was not done.
413 S. 25th St., Scotch pine. The way in which this tree is browning looks to be due to pine wilt.
There was still some green, possibly to the fact that the pine wilt hit late enough in the season
that cool weather has slowed it. Most likely this tree will finish dying in the spring when
temperatures warm. I would recommend removal before spring to eliminate wood that may have
larva of the pine sawyer beetle which carries the nematodes that cause pine wilt.
If you have any further questions or concerns, or need more materials, please contact me at (402)
472-1382 or by email atimurrow2@unl.edu.
Sincerely,
t~f JU~
