RE: Removal of pine trees due to pine wilt - 977 N. 25th Avenue, Blair, Nebraska
Dear Ken,
It has been brought to our attention there are three (3) dead or dying pine trees on the above property.
These trees have been inspected by Mark Hodson, Public Works Superintendent and the Chip Murrow, State
Arborist. They have both determined the trees are dead, diseased or damaged beyond recovery, due to pine wilt
and should be removed for safety and sanitation. The Blair Municipal Code Section 6-312 states "all trees and
shrubs within the City of Blair shall be pruned or removed when such trees or shrubs constitute a hazard to life
and property, or harbor insects or diseases or are damaged to the extent they constitute a threat to other trees or
shrubs, persons or property within the City. Enclosed please fInd a copy of the city ordinance for your
reference.
Therefore, based on the above information, you are hereby notified to remove the dead trees or have the trees
removed by a registered tree contractor. Please contact our office within (15) days to discuss this matter and
confirm you are able to remove this violation within (60) days. If you are unable to remove these trees, the city
will hire a contractor to remove the trees and bill you for the service, giving you (30) days to payor the city will
assess these charges against your property for payment.
Again, please contact our offIce by September 11, 2009 to confirm compliance with this request. If you have
any questions, feel free to contact me.

Dear Mark,
This letter is in regards to the trees we looked at on August 19th in Blair. The following
assessment was made from the ground only. A complete assessment was not done.
1353 South Street. Silver maple which had many cavity openings in the crown, one where a
large limb had come off. These openings are areas of entry for water and rot. With the size of
the hollows that could be seen, I would recommend removal ofthis tree.
1402 Grant. Siberian elm which had a soft, decay area at the union of the two major branches
coming from the main trunk. Wound closer of a removed limb was also noticed to be taking
longer then normal meaning the tree is possibly in decline. I would recommend removal of this
tree.
1415 Parle. Black locust which had lost a limb during a storm. One branch had fungal growth,
which is a sign of internal decay, but maybe just contained in that branch. There was also an
opening at the base of the tree, but it could not be assessed as bees were going in and out. I
suggest a winter check of this tree.
415 Baronage Dr. Pines behind the home have pine wilt. Removal for safety and sanitation.
977 N 25th Ave. Three pines have little to no crown left. The caused looked to be pine wilt.
