04-08-2009Roll Call Members of the Blair Park Board met at 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 8, in the City Council Chambers. Members present: Neil Jensen, president; Ann George, secretary; Jim Peterson, Ardee Pounds. Blair Parks Department: Pat Long. Members not present: Kathy Kuster, Roger Petersen Reading and Approval of March 11, 2009, Minutes Ardee Pounds's motion to approve the March 11 minutes was seconded by Jim Peterson and carried. Approval of Bills Ardee Pounds made a motion, seconded by Ann George, to approve a bill in the amount of $900 for two 40-gallon trash containers purchased from MAXR for Black Elk-Neihardt Park. The motion was carried. Old Business Brick placement and overview map at Black Elk-Neihardt Park. Pat Long told Board members that some additional pormncinuiati ye bricks had been laid at park and that others were being prepared. He plans to install the overview map within the next two weeks. Discussion of Arbor Day celebration at 1:30 p.m. on April 24. This year's traditional Arbor Day tree- planting with a class of elementary school students will take place at Ridgeview Park. Second-graders taught by Mrs. Boyd Deerfield School will participate in the planting. Again this year a plaque at each tree planted will feature the names of the participating students. Pat Long will select three or four trees from among the following: American Linden, Blue Spruce, Burgundy Maple, Royal Frost Birch (it was noted that with this tree borers could be a problem), Rough Bark Maple, and Sugar Maple. Review of meeting with Dana track coach Mark Berbaum. Pat Long and Jim Petersen have met at Black Elk-Neihardt Park with Mark Berbaum to review the condition of the running track used by Dana's team. They found that there were several spots that need to be filled in with mulch. New Business Discussion of items to include in Keno request or re I lacing Stever Park playground eauipment. Pat commented on new playground items at Steyer Park that could include a "Tea for Two" infant swing, a climbing wall, and rubber mulch. He noted that rubber mulch is automatically ADA compliant. At the next Board on 13, members will meet at City Hall and then visit the playground area at Steyer to discuss the placement of playground equipment. Friends of Arboretum meeting. Friends of the Arboretum will next meet on April 15 to continue inventorying and recording trees at Black Elk-Neihardt Park. Peterson's motion to urn was seconded by Ardee # nds d carried.
