03-12-2008Roll Call Members of the Blair Park Board met at 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 12, in the City Hall Council Chambers. Members present: Neil Jensen, president; Ann George, secretary; Kathy Kuster, vice president; Roger Petersen, Jim Peterson, Ardee Pounds. Blair Parks Department: Pat Long. Reading and Approval of February 13, 2008, Minutes Jim Peterson's motion to approve the February 13 minutes was seconded by Roger Petersen and carried. Approval of Bills There were no bills needing approval. Old Business Discussion of sidewalk desiens for northeast corner of Lions Park. Pat Long circulated four proposals for a new sidewalk and the location of a drinking fountain. Board members unanimously selected proposal #1. Discussion on 2008 budget items. Budget items for the year will include the Lions Park improvements discussed above. Another item will be replacing old swing sets at Steyer Park. New Business Discussion of Arbor Day celebration site. Members agreed that this year's Arbor Day tree planting (maples ?) on April 25 will be at Steyer Park; a class of second grade students at South School will be invited to participate. It was suggested that for this year and future years each planted tree be identified with a plaque that features the children's handwritten names, the year, the class, and the school. Friends of the Arboretum meetine. This group will next meet on March 19 at City Hall to inventory and record trees at Black Elk- Neihardt Park. Tree City Awards in Lincoln Pat announced that this year's Tree City Awards sponsored by the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum will be given as part of a day -long program on April 8. He plans to attend and encouraged board members to attend as well. Jim Peterson's motion to adjourn was seconded by Kathy Kuster and carried.
