Minutes, Blair Park Board Meeting
February 13, 2008
Roll Call
Members of the Blair Park Board met at 7 p.m., Wednesday, February 13, in the City Hall Council
Chambers. Members present: Neil Jensen, president; Ann George, secretary; Jim Peterson, Ardee
Pounds. Blair Parks Department: Pat Long. Not present: Kathy Kuster, Roger Petersen
Reading and Approval of November 14, 2007, Minutes
Ardee Pounds's motion to approve the November 14 minutes was seconded by Jim Peterson and
carried.
Old Business
Discussion on progress of depot at Lions Park. Pat Long discussed electrical wiring plans at Lions Park;
some costs will be shared with the Blair Historic Preservation Alliance in conjunction with the 1880
Railroad Depot that has been moved into the park. Pat will have a sketch of plans for new sidewalks at our
next meeting (depending on weather conditions, Board members might visit the park).
Discussion on 2008 budget items. There was a general discussion about the need to replace the aging
swing set and rope swing in Steyer Park — again, Board members will look at the equipment at Steyer at an
upcoming meeting.
New Business
Election officers Jim Peterson made a motion, seconded by Ardee Pounds and carried, that the
present slate of officers be elected to another term. They are: president, Neil Jensen; vice president,
Kathy Kuster; and secretary, Ann George.
Application for Keno Funds for Black Elk- Neihardt Park, Phase 2. Pat Long told members that the City
Council had approved the request of the Black Elk - Neihardt Park Corp. for funds to help pay for Phase 2
in the development of the park, i.e., lighting the Tower, replacing the four -foot wide, crumbling sidewalks
in the area of the Tower with eight -foot wide sidewalks (anticipating that this part of the park will
eventually become part of the city -wide trail system), and installing an aerial map of the park in an area
with benches. (Pat gave members copies of the proposal for Phase 2 and the request for Keno funds that
had been submitted to the City Council.)
Friends of the Arboretum meeingi This group will next meet on February 20 at City Hall to continue its
inventory and recording of trees in Blair's Arboretum sites.
Jim Peterson's motion to adjourn was seconded by Ardee Pounds and carried. The Board will next
meet on Wednesday, March 12, at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
