2008-06RESOLUTION NO. 2008 - 6
COUNCIL MEMBER ABBOTT INTRODUCED THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION:
WHEREAS, the City of Blair, Nebraska has long been served by the dutiful and
courageous men and women that make up the highly respected and greatly admired Blair
Volunteer Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, the members of the Blair Volunteer Fire Department have regularly met at
and have used the second floor hall facility at the Blair City Hall for their annual meetings,
events, training and as a place of public assembly; and
WHEREAS, recently the Nebraska State Fire Marshall inspected the second floor hall
facility of the Blair City Hall and found significant deficiencies in the facility which require that
the second floor hall no longer be used for any public assembly, meetings and events, including
those of the Blair Volunteer Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, the City of Blair, out of gratitude and appreciation for the sacrifice,
contributions, and service of the men and women who make up the Blair Volunteer Fire
Department hereby represents and indicates that the City of Blair will provide the Blair
Volunteer Fire Department members with the rental of a facility capable of holding certain
meetings and events regularly sponsored by the Department; and
WHEREAS, the Blair Volunteer Fire Department regularly uses the second floor area for
training activities, and that other areas of the fire stations will not meet the space needs of the
Fire Department for training purposes; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and City Council of the City of
Blair, Nebraska that the City of Blair will annually pay for the rental of a facility for the Blair
Volunteer Fire Department to use for the following department events: Annual Fireman's Dance,
Annual Steak Fry for members, Old Timers meeting, Employers Appreciation night dinner and
the Department's turn in hosting the area mutual aide meeting.
FURTHER, be it resolved that the Mayor and City Council recognize the current meeting
room spaces are inadequate to meet the training needs of the Department and so therefore, the
Mayor and City Council hereby instructs City Staff to work with the Department to start the
planning process to provide an area that will provide adequate training facilities for the said Fire
Department.
COUNCIL MEMBER ABBOTT MOVED THAT THE RESOLUTION BE ADOPTED AS
READ, WHICH SAID MOTION WAS SECONDED BY COUNCIL MEMBER WOLFF.
UPON ROLLCALL, COUNCIL MEMBERS STEWART, SHOTWELL, SCHEVE, FANOELE,
CHRISTIANSEN, ABBOTT AND BIFFAR VOTING "AYE" AND COUNCILMEMBERS
NONE VOTING "NAY ", THE MAYOR DECLARED THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION
PASSED AND APPROVED THIS 26TH DAY OF FEBRUARY, 2008.
