As you are aware, I am the attorney for the City of Blair, Nebraska. In that regard, I was
requested to look into the ownership of "Sheridan Street ". It would appear from the original
platting in the 1800s, that Sheridan Street was located essentially on top of what is now known as
South Creek. The records indicate that on or about February 19, 1884, the County Board of
Washington,County, Nebraska approved a Petition of the landowners to vacate, among other
things, Sheridan Street in Kennard's Addition. On or about April 1, 1896, the County Clerk for
Washington County, Nebraska conveyed, by Quitclaim Deed, that real estate known as Sheridan
Street to an individual by the name of Abram Castetler.
Since the records indicate that the street was vacated and was conveyed to a private
individual, the City of Blair has no ownership interest in that real estate. I have advised the
Mayor and City Administrator, that since the trees along the bank of South Creek are located on
private property, as compared to public property owned by the City, that the City of Blair has no
liability for their removal.
I have previously provided you with a copy of the April 1, 1896 Deed.
