2023-01-11 Blair Park Board Meeting Minutes for January 11, 2023 Call to Order: The Blair Park Board meeting was called to order by President Neil Jensen at 7:00 p.m. Present: Neil Jensen, Joe Burns, Kristy Rounds, Betsy Anderson and Park Superintendent Pat Long. Approval of Minutes: The October 12, 2022 minutes were approved by Joe Burns and seconded by Kristy Rounds. Approval of Bills: No bills were submitted. Old Business: 1. Completion of renovated Ridgeview playground. The footings for the renovated playground were completed in late fall. As weather permits, the poured in place surfacing will be installed. The Creative Sites playground equipment has been delivered and is in storage until ready for installation. 2. Completion of new Southern Hills playground. When weather permits the playground (approximately 36’ x 35’) will be marked and laid out – some grading will be necessary. The poured in place surfacing will be completed followed by the installation of the play equipment which has been delivered and is in storage. New Business: 1. Installation of a new sun dial at Rhodes Park. A new sundial was purchased for the park and will be installed this spring. A brick walking path from the trail to the sundial will be created. 2. Installation of a sidewalk at the Steyer upper shelter. A sidewalk on the west side of the shelter and two additional handicap parking spaces will be laid out, framed and poured. 3. Tree planting in the parks and along Main Street. Although presenting a pleasant softening effect to Washington Street the planted trees are not thriving. The cement sidewalk surface inhibits the trees from having enough root surface area and moisture exposure. The columnar trees best compliment the sidewalk location as they do not have the expansive branch span however they are at an age where they are producing nuts which are a nuisance. Other varieties of trees or possibly potted plantings will be considered as replacements. Tree plantings in the parks will continue to be diversified to enhance the park environments and the city’s arboretum. 4. Update on Generations Park Construction should begin on the park in late summer 5. Blair Dog Park The park board is in the process of locating a suitable location (approximately 3-4 acres) for a dog park. The Mandy Jo Rounds Memorial Foundation is in the process of fundraising for this park. Adjournment: Betsy Anderson’s motion to adjourn the meeting was seconded by Kristy Rounds. The meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m. Respectfully submitted by Betsy Anderson January 14, 2023
