Blair Park Board Meeting Minutes for August 10, 2022
Call to Order: The Blair Park Board was called to order by President Neil
Jensen at 7 p.m.
Present: Neil Jensen, Todd Wick, Sarah Boeka, Betsy Anderson and Park
Superintendent Pat Long.
Approval of Minutes: The July 13, 2022 minutes were approved by Sarah
Boeka and seconded by Todd Wick.
Approval of Bills: No bills were submitted.
New Business
1. Review events for the Bike Race to be held August 28, 2022 at
Black Elk Neihardt Park by the Nebraska Interscholastic Cycling
League.

The trails will be marked on August 26. The league has
requested the park be mowed prior to the event – the mowing
contractor will be notified.

Equipment set up will take place on August 27. To enable
access to water the spigot by the shelter will be turned on.
Two port-a-potties will be placed in the parking lot close to the
trees thus providing shade. Trash containers will be provided
by the Park Department.
Parking for the event will be in the Christ Lutheran Church lot
and a shuttle bus will be provided to transport riders. The
league anticipates around 90 riders.
The race will run from 8:00 – 12:00 on the 28th.
Pick up of the trash containers will be accomplished by Park
Department staff.
2. Tour to Southern Hills Subdivision to review tree planting and
future playground location. (The meeting was relocated from the
Council Chamber to the Southern Hills Subdivision at 7:30 p.m.)
11 trees were planted by the Blair Garden Center at a cost of
$2,669.92. The funding for these trees came from the
Celebrate Trees Grant Program thru the NRD. The Park
Department staff has been responsible for the watering of these
trees.
Although still alive the newly seeded grass is struggling with the
drought conditions. Additional seeding may take place when
the temperature and moisture permit.
The location for the play center was discussed – this area will
be centrally located on the property and space for a future
shelter will be taken into consideration.
The poured in place surfacing, play center and additional play
toys have been ordered. The delivery and installation of this
play area may be delayed from the August timeline due to
supplier issues.
Adjournment: Betsy Anderson’s motion to adjourn the meeting was
seconded by Sarah Boeka. The meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
