Park Board Meeting Notes for May 11, 2022
Please Note: Due to the lack of a quorum there was no official
Park Board Meeting for the month of May.
Present: Neil Jensen, Sarah Boeka, Betsy Anderson and Park
Superintendent Pat Long.
Discussion:
Cathy Prettyman, Michele Miller, Heidi Swanson, Dawn
Nielsen, Linda Ferring, Christine Horst and Sherri Waugh
presented a proposal for the planting and maintenance of a
native plant plot in Generations Park. This planting would be
pollinator friendly, serve as an educational site, encourage
birds, improve water quality, enhance the beauty of the park,
thrive during droughts, once established would minimize
weeds and would negate the need for mowing. The group
would seek funding from grants and donations.
Pat Long indicated the plans for Generation Park are still in
the formative stage and as they became more definite a
native plant plot would be considered. Discussion ensued
on other locations throughout the city where this type of
planting might be appropriate. The group will continue to
stay in contact with Pat Long and the Park Board.
To simplify the meeting process for both the Park Board and
the Arboretum it is being suggested the meetings be held
consecutively on Wednesday evenings. This will be
discussed in more detail at the next Park Board Meeting.
