Blair Park Board Meeting Minutes for February 9, 2022
Call to Order: The Blair Park Board meeting was called to order by
President Neil Jensen at 7:00 p.m.
Present: Neil Jensen, Sarah Boeka, Joe Burns, Betsy Anderson and Park
Superintendent Pat Long.
Approval of Minutes: The January 12, 2022 minutes were approved by
Sarah Boeka and seconded by Joe Burns.
Approval of Bills: No bills were submitted.
Old Business:
1. Set up subcommittee to review future park projects.
Sarah Boeka, Neil Jensen and Betsy Anderson will serve as
members for the subcommittee to review future park projects.
Parks to be reviewed included:
The future park at the Southern Hills addition which will
include parking, tree planting and construction of a play area
and shelter.
Ridgeview Park which will be renovated with new surfacing
and additional play toys.
Hardy RV Park which is in need of renovated bathrooms
facilities, upgraded electrical hookups and additional parking
pads.
Relocation of play toys from Black Elk Neihardt Park to
Cauble Creek Park where they would be better utilized. Also
included in this park would be exercise stations such as
those for stretching.
Possible location for a “pump track”.
Additional trees plantings at the cemetery.
Replacement of trees in the downtown area of Washington
Street.
2. City Council approval of Nebraska Interscholastic Cycling League
to host their 2022 opening bike race for kids 6 – 12 years old at
Black Elk Neihardt Park on August 28, 2022.
At the January 25,2022 City Council Meeting the Interscholastic
Cycling bike race at Black Elk Neihardt Park was approved for
August 28, 2022.
In addition to the August race the NIC League would like to host a
one day clinic at Black Elk Neihardt Park. This clinic would
introduce riders aged 6–12 to mountain bike trail riding. The
session would be promoted thru the newspaper and radio. The
date is still to be determined.
New Business:
1. Discussion on site and tree type for Arbor Day celebration on April
29, 2022.
Rhodes Park has been selected for this year’s Arbor Day
celebration. The trees to be planted include a Japanese Lilac and
Magnolia.
2. Discussion on types of trees to be planted at Generations Park.
The selection of trees to be planted at Generations Park is on-
going. A variety of species will be selected. Planting will take
place after the park grounds have been graded and plotted for the
various planned activities.
3. The next meeting of the Friends of Arboretum will be
February 15, 2022.
Adjournment: Joe Burn’s motion to adjourn the meeting was seconded by
Neil Jensen. The meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
