Blair Park Board Meeting Minutes for September 15, 2021
Call to Order: The Blair Park Board meeting was called to order by
President Neil Jensen at 7:00 p.m.
Present: Neil Jensen, Steve Tonn, Sarah Boeka, Joe Burns, Todd Wick,
Betsy Anderson and Park Superintendent Pat Long.
Approval of Minutes: The minutes were approved by Joe Burns and
seconded by Todd Wick.
Approval of Bills: No bills were presented.
Old Business:
1. Update on Harry Ohrt Lions Club shelter at Steyer Park
The back wall of the shelter has been opened up and the header
beam and column is in place. The electrical wiring is underway.
OPPD will be moving the existing electrical panel from the
bathrooms to the shelter and installing a larger panel in the
bathroom location. The garden wall has been completed and the
concrete patio will be poured when a contractor or the city street
department can fit the pour into their schedule.
2. General Park Update
Weed eating is being accomplished on the trail system. The trees
at Steyer and Black Elk Neighardt Parks have been trimmed and
the debris chipped. The chips/mulch will be spread throughout the
park where needed. Spraying for weeds is also underway.
3. Sealing of the Tower of the Four Winds ceramic tiles will begin
shortly. The tiles will be washed, rinsed and then have two coats
of sealer applied. The sealer will protect the tiles for five years.
New Business:
1. Possible GOATS marathon in 2022 at Black Elk Park
The GOATS marathon held at Black Elk Neighardt Park in August
was a success for the organization and they are interested in
planning another event in 2022. This run brought about 150 runners
to Blair. The event was well planned and orchestrated.
Sarah Boeka moved the GOATS organization be allowed to
schedule a marathon in 2022. The motion was seconded by
Steve Tonn. The motion was approved.
2. There will be no Friends of the Arboretum meeting in September.
Adjournment: Steve Tonn’s motion to adjourn the meeting was seconded
by Neil Jensen. The meeting adjourned at 7:24 p.m.
