2021-03-10 Blair Park Board Meeting Minutes for March 10, 2021 Call to Order: The Blair Park Board meeting was called to order by President Neil Jensen at 7:00 p.m. Present: Neil Jensen, Steve Tonn, Sarah Boeka, Todd Wick, Betsy Anderson and Park Superintendent Pat Long. Approval of Minutes: The February 10, 2021 minutes were approved by Sarah Boeka and seconded by Steve Tonn. Approval of Bills: No bills were presented. Old Business: 1. Update on Arbor Day tree planting celebration at Stemmermann th Park on April 30 at 1:00 p.m.  th The April 30 date is tentative depending on the current Covid19 status. The time has been changed to 12:30 p.m. due to a scheduling conflict. The students this year will be nd 2 graders from South School. The trees to be planted are a Scarlet Oak, Golden Rain and Hot Wings Maple. 2. Season Project Updates  Interviews for an open position in the Park Department have been completed. Four candidates interviewed for the position and the hiring decision will be made shortly.  The park and cemetery mowing will continue to be out sourced for this calendar year.  Paving will again take place in the cemetery – this year in the north east corner.  Grave monuments/markers in the cemetery are in need of repair and/or resetting; some stones have been pushed off their base, others are tipping or slanting. All monuments and markers will be charted. The work will be contracted out and should begin mid June. It is anticipated 40 stones will be repaired this year.  The renovations for Ridgeview Park will begin when the weather permits and will include removal of the current surface base and replaced with a poured in place surface. The current swing set will remain and a climbing tower and two smaller toys will be added.  The Lion’s and Rhodes Park’s poured in place playground surfaces will be sealed.  The Steyer Park shelter renovations will begin yet this spring and it is anticipated this construction will take two to three months. The HGM architectural drawings were reviewed. The specific drawing for electrical, concrete, elevation and drainage work will be distributed for bids. The need for an accessible water source was discussed and will be evaluated.  The ceramic tiles on the Tower to The Four Winds at Black Elk Neighardt Park will be sealed this summer.  The floating docks will soon be put out on the river at the Blair Optimist Park.  A new slide is being purchased for the city pool at Steyer Park. Installation of the slide will be accomplished by the city workers and this installation should take place within the next two months. This slide will be placed in the four to five feet pool depth area and be in addition to the existing slide.  Summer part time workers will be hired to supplement the current park department staff. These workers will need to be 18 years of age to enable them to used power tools and drive city vehicles.  The scoreboard at Peterson and Cubs Fields will be removed and a new scoreboard installed. The removed sign will be relocated for use at the Stemmerman Field Complex. New Business: 1. Friends of the Arboretum meeting date is March 17, 2021 at the City Hall Council Chambers.
