The hospital was founded through the vision, energy and organization of people in Blair, Herman, Arlington, Fort Calhoun, and Tekamah. Volunteers in these and other rural townships provided the leadership and raised the funds enabling hospital construction in 1956. Through the years, Memorial Community Hospital has healed and nurtured its patients and now takes an active rale in wellness. As the focus on staying well has come to the forefront of healthcare, Memorial Community Hospital prides- itself on providing education, training and services necessary for healthier communities, healthier people. Since 1993, Memorial Community Hospital has been engaged in a long-term capital investment program. This program was developed to improve the delivery of healthcare in our communities. It was divided into three phases and cost in excess of $11 million. Phase I, now complete, cost $4.5 million and provided for the renovation of 60% of the original hospital and for the construction and acquisition of clinic buildings- in Ft. Calhoun, Tekamah and Blair. The purchase and implementation of new equipment and advanced technology systems was also a part of this phase. It is the goal of MCH to better serve patients by recruiting additional excellent family practice physicians. These doctors are accustomed to state-of-the-art equipment and modern medical facilities. In order to attract physicians from the best medical schools and hospitals, MCH must offer competitive facilities and resources. Currently; the -size and layout of the 25 year-old Blair Clinic hinders services and deters physician recruitment. In order to provide the best care for patients and the best resources for medical staff, MCH must make major improvements. It is only with the assurance of these improvements that we will be able to persuade physicians to commit to Memorial Community Hospital and to Blair. "The area's trusted provider in health care, for every phase of life." 810 North 22nd Street e Blair, Nebraska 68008 ® (402) 426-2182 ® (402) 426-1260 fax www.mchhs.org Storm/Shaner January 21, 1998 Page 2 Phase 11 of the long-term plan entails the construction of a 16,000 square foot primary care center, which will replace the existing Blair Clinic. The new center will be attached to MCH and provide all patient services in one location, and will more effectively meet the healthcare needs of the burgeoning patient population. Currently, the on -duty physicians use the office space of the off-duty physicians and attending nurses work at the opposite side of the physician's desk. The new center will provide space for ten family practice physicians giving each an office, three examination rooms (a total of thirty) and a nurse's station within a pod modality. The pod design will replace the current linear configuration whereby patients are seen in two exam rooms per doctor (a total of sixteen available). The new layout will enable physicians to serve patients more efficiently will less leadtime required for appointments and will reduce waiting time in the office. MCH has begun a $2.5 million capital campaign to raise funds to help to offset construction costs of the new building. We are raising funds from the Hospital "family" and have completed the Board of Directors and Employees phases. We achieved 100% participation from board members and the employees raised an impressive 154% of their $40,000 goal, contributing over $61,500. The Medical Staff has begun its phase and has a goal of $200,004: To date, we have raised a total of $1,596,084 from various contributors including a $500,000 contribution from the Mary Virginia Korshoj Foundation. Phase III will begin upon completion of the clinic construction. it will provide for renovation of the remaining 40% cif the present hospital, to include: the emergency room, radiology, laboratory, and patient rooms and will add a second operating suite. The completion of construction and renovation is expected by 2003. We respectfully ask the Blair City Council to consider a contribution of $25,000 from the Blair Keno Fund to assist in this project; this represents 1% of the total campaign goal. All residents of Burt and Washington Counties, and especially the community of Blair will benefit from an improved hospital. We have attached additional information for your perusal.
