Thanks, Rod. We have talked about the direct connector, and that may happen. We are
using the Jerry Otte rule of "let the kids show you where to build the sidewalk". The
proposed connector will no doubt serve some students, but also will provide better
access to the school arboretum trail for the public off of Lions Trail. The proposed
connector also would keep the general public mostly away from the rear of the building
(where we have had a few issues with vandalism) routing them around the perimeter of
the property (of course, only if they take that route).
We already have kids "cutting across" the open grass area to Lions Trail in good
weather, wet weather, snow weather, you name it... they are all 9, 10, or 11 years old
and any open field is an invitation to roam and get of the beaten path - I vaguely recall
those days!!
Thanks for your consideration, please email or call if you would like to talk more.

Rex: The connection to Loins Trail is no problem. We will review the request to help fund the sidewalk and let you
know. I do have a concern on students having an access to the School. They will not use the proposed connector and
then to the school via the current sidewalk. Have you looked at adding a direct route from the trail that the kids might
use? In good weather they can walk on the grass, but in the winter that could be a problem.
We will get back to you.

Rod and Phil:
With the sale of Lot 2 at Arbor Park, the school district has abandoned the foot bridge
and sidewalk that accessed that lot. (see attachment). We are contemplating
constructing an extension of the current sidewalk through the Arbor Park Lot 1 property
and would like to connect to Lions Trail (see attachment). We feel this extension would
provide for our students as well as provide a complete loop through the Arbor Park
Arboretum for community users of the trail.
Questions:
1) May we connect our sidewalk with the Lions Trail?
2) Would the city be willing to help fund the cost of the sidewalk (approx cost $4,500)?
Please let me know your thoughts. I will be available by phone (office 402-426-2610 or
cell 402-533-0679) or email. Thank you!
