All but one of the Sousaphones currently used were purchased in the 1970's. The funds requested will be used to purchase five Jupiter brand Sousaphones (marching tubas) for the high school band program at a cost of $2398.00 each fora total of $11,990. - The Sousaphones will be used by the high school band during area parades and outdoor sporting events. The band program has 207 enrolled for next fall with eleven Sousaphone players signed up so far. The Blair High School band is proud to be involved in. various community activities. The band traditionally performs at several civic events such as Gateway To The West Parade and the Chamber of Commerce's Christmas Tree Lighting Campaign and Holiday Kickoff. Band members also have participated in solos and small groups at Christmastime at Washington County Bank and for the Alumni brunch held in the summer. The bright brass bells of the Sousaphones will showcase the pride of the entire marching band as they entertain crowds from Blair to .Omaha and Nebraska City. The students will benefit educationally from having a quality instrument that is easier to play than the tubas we currently use. A large purchase is necessary -at this time due to the number of tuba players in band as well as the advanced age of the current instruments. Eleven instruments are needed for the Fall of 2004_. One Sousaphone has been purchased using. the proceeds raised from the Band, Soup and Salad Supper plus a private donation. Five additional horns were recently purchased by the school using the instrument replacement fund. Additional funding requests are currently being sought from the Blair Schools Foundation. Thank you for your consideration of this request.
