The Blair Public Library was started in 1895 by the Monday
Afternoon Club. The Library is committed to maintaining an
up-to-date collection of basic works of lasting value.
Providing timely materials on a variety of opinions and
issues of current and historical interest. To purchase or
borrow items requested by users in accordance with policy.
To supply self-help material for personal growth, and to
supporting educational, civic and cultural activities within
the community. Enclosed is a copy of our mission statement
and our ongoing objectives.
4. Type of project:
Automation of library services by adding a public
online catalog.
5. Brief description of the project:
Technology project
The library would like to add 3 computer monitors and
the appropriate computer software and hardware needed
to automate the card catalog. An automated card
catalog would make library books more accessible to
patrons. When the proposed circulation system is installed,
patrons can look for books not just by title and author,
but by the main characters in novels. Children can find
books about trains, or with mice as the main characters.
When this project is completed, anyone with a computer and a
modem will be able to view our card catalog. The students at
the Blair High School and the new middle school will be able
to see if we have information on the topic they are
researching from their school.
An automated system would also free the staff from
cataloging, typing and filing. They can use the time saved
to plan more outreach projects for the people of Blair.
Installation of the proposed system would take
approximately 4 months and cost an estimated X30,304.36
Please see the attached sheets for estimates of the proposed
project.

We would ask for � 7,700 out of the Keno fund. This would
represent 25% of the total project cost. This would leave
03,104.00 to be raised through other sources.
