Dear City Council,
We are writing this letter to ask for your support of the Matthew Daubenspeck Playground Project. The
project will be a legacy of service to our late son and provide a safe place for children to play on the east
side of the Youth Sports Complex.
Currently there is one playground area near the Youth Sports Complex, Stemmerman Park. The Park is
located to the West of the baseball fields. Unfortunately the many youth (and siblings) that make use of
the soccer, t -ball, and softball fields are left without a safe play to play as Stemmerman Park is located
across a large, busy, parking lot from these areas.
To date we have raised over $17,000 towards the playground. We are in the process of preparing a
Kiewit grant application (to be submitted in January, 2017). To be eligible for the grant, we need to show
that we have the support of the community behind us.
We are asking for a grant from the Keno funds for 20% of the cost of the playground project. The total
cost of the playground is estimated at $51,615. We request a grant of $10,323.
We appreciate your consideration of this important project which will create a safe play space for the
many youth players, siblings, and visitors who make use of the Blair Youth Sports Complex each year.
