Blair Park Board Meeting Minutes for August 14, 2019
Call to Order: The Blair Park Board President Neil Jensen called the
meeting to order at 7:02 p.m.
Present: Neil Jensen, Todd Wick, Steve Tonn, Betsy Anderson and Parks
Superintendent Pat Long.
Approval of Minutes: The June 19, 2019 Minutes were approved by Steve
Tonn and seconded by Todd Wick. (There was no July meeting/minutes
due to lack of a quorum.)
Approval of Bills: No bills presented.
Old Business: No Old Business.
New Business:
1. Review of Stemmermann and Steyer Playground Projects.
After a great deal of research and mower testing a new lawn
mower was purchased for Stemmermann Park at a cost of
$10,400. Five mowers from various retailers were tested for a
period of 3-5 days each operating under a variety of conditions.
The “Hustler” 60 inch deck mower was purchased from Ty’s
Outdoor Machine in Gretna. This mower was selected because
of ease of cleaning and repair, its ability to hold to the bank
when mowing on steep inclines and its dual axel power
capability. Under a previous agreement the Park Department
agreed to purchase the mower and with the actual mowing
accomplished by the Blair Sports Complex personnel.
In preparation for the new playgrounds dirt work is being
accomplished at Stemmermann and Steyer Parks. Olson
Stewart Construction Company will begin pouring the concrete

for the outer ring on August 26. Sterling West will begin the
poured in place surfacing the first week in September and the
play equipment should arrive and be installed within the
following two to three weeks. The playground completion date

is scheduled to be September 30.
2. The Tower of the Four Winds Renovation.
The renovation of the Tower of the Four Winds has been
completed. In addition the four pedestals have also been
repaired and sealed. It has been recommended this sealing
process be repeated every two to three years to maximize the
protection of the tiles. The sidewalk in front of the Tower is
scheduled to be repaired prior to the Dana Homecoming Event

scheduled for the weekend of October 4.
3. Friends of the Arboretum meeting.
The next meeting of the Friends of the Arboretum is scheduled
for August 21, 2019.
Adjournment: Todd Wick’s motion to adjourn the meeting was seconded
by Steve Tonn. The meeting adjourned at 8:02 p.m.
