BHS Band Instrument Request January 31, 2019

Blair Community Schools provides an instrumental music program for grades 5-12.
At BHS, nearly 200 students participate in marching and concert band in grades 9-
12. Blair has the highest music participation percentage in the state for our class
size with 46% of the student body either enrolled in band or choir.
While the school district provides a modest budget for instruments, music and
repairs, the band is periodically in need of replacing aging instruments. Even well
taken care of instruments and equipment eventually wear out. Due to budget
constraints, purchasing new instruments within the current school funding is not a
possibility.
Our biggest need now is replacing our mellophones (marching French horns). We
are looking to replace 11 of these instruments at a total cost of $13,810. (One
instrument is $1255). So far we have been able to purchase five instruments with
donations from our booster groups, the Blair Area Community Foundation and a
private donor.
These instruments are vital to a band experience. Our bands have received high
marks at various competitions and we want to continue that standard of excellence.
These instruments will make a significant difference by allowing more students to
participate this year and for many years to come.
My request of the City of Blair Keno Funds is $3,765. This would allow us to
purchase three more instruments. The sousaphones you helped the school
purchase in 2004 are still in great shape and we appreciate your support.
Please let me know if you need any further information.
Thank you,
