2338COUNCIL MEMBER ANDERSON INTRODUCED THE FOLLOWING ORDINANCE:
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE OFFICER RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS OF THE CITY
OF BLAIR, NEBRASKA POLICE DEPARTMENT; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR
PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH AND PROVIDING WHEN THIS
ORDINANCE SHALL BE IN FULL FORCE AND EFFECT; AND PROVIDING FOR
PUBLICATION OF THIS ORDINANCE IN PAMPHLET FORM.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BLAIR,
NEBRASKA:
OFFICER RESIDENCY: It shall be required as a condition of employment that from this date
forward any newly hired City of Blair Police Officer must live within Washington County,
Nebraska. Such residency for a new hire shall be established within twelve (12) months of the
starting date of employment with the City of Blair Police Department. Any City of Blair Police
Officer hired prior to the effective date of this ordinance shall continue to be bound by the existing
residency requirement that officers shall reside within a 30 minute response time of notification by
supervisor or the supervisor's representative and will not be subject to the more restrictive residency
requirements of this ordinance as part of his or her current employment; including all promotional
opportunities with the City of Blair Police Department.
SECTION 2. Any officer hired after the effective date of this ordinance failing to meet the
condition of employment for residency requirements established in this ordinance shall be subject
to immediate termination. The City Administrator shall have the authority to grant additional time
if he/she feels circumstances warrant the additional time.
Section 3. That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.
SECTION 4. That this ordinance shall be in force and take effect from and after its passage,
approval and publication as provided by law.
