Pat Long reported that surfacing and playground equipment installation is proceeding at the
Daubenspeck memorial playground at the Sports Complex and the Steyer Park. Grand
opening of the Daubenspeck memorial playground is scheduled for August 8.
Jeene Hobbs asked Pat for an update on the Lions Park Bathroom. Long said the city is
reviewing specifications for bid documents. Long said he expects the bid documents to go out
following the next or following board meeting. He said once the bids are back for final approval,
the construction should not take very long.
Hobbs asked if there was any word on the request for the free library book drop. Pat said he
thinks that issue is done for right now.
Pat said there will be a Friends of Arboretum meeting in August, either the second Tuesday, or
second Thursday of the month.
Pat said what his crew is fighting now is the Japanese Beetle. He said we are spraying
everywhere.
Steve Tonn asked if the sidewalk at Optimist Park was still on the plan. Pat said the sidewalk is
marked out. He said weather permitting his crews would skin off the grass and get started. He
said baseball softball and pool and additional projects have put him behind.
Pat said he has $2,786.82 in donations that will pretty much be depleted by the time the
playground at Steyer is completed. He said he has $300 in trails donation and $35,000 donation
for the Daubenspeck playground. $1, 357 for skate park he is holding back for resurfacing
ramps.
Todd Wick asked about plantings at Neihardt last year. Pat said about 50 percent made it. He
said we will see if they make it through the next winter and the effects of the summer dry spell.
With no objections, Jeene Hobbs adjourned the meeting.
